Why doesn't my course load in Internet Explorer?

Follow

If you are using Internet Explorer with the Compatibility View setting enabled, you will see a blank course shell when you open your course, as shown below:

Compatibility View causes recent versions of Internet Explorer to load webpages using Internet Explorer 7 standards, which are not compatible with the course and will prevent the course from loading. Disabling Compatibility View will allow the course to load.

Turn off Internet Explorer's Compatibility View from the address bar

  • You may see a small icon shaped like a torn page in Explorer's address bar. It will be blue if it is enabled, as shown below:

  • Click the icon to turn it off. The icon will turn grey when compatibility view is turned off:

Turn off Compatibility View from the Tools menu
If you do not see the compatibility view icon in Explorer's address bar, you may have it enabled as a result of a group policy, Internet Explorer has automatically added the site to the Compatibility View list, or you have the Display all websites in Compatibility View option enabled.

  • Click the Tools menu and select Compatibility View Settings from the menu (If you do not see the Tools menu, press your "Alt" key to make it visible)

  • On the Compatibility View Settings window, make sure the "Display all websites in Compatibility view is NOT selected. If you see emtrain.com in the list of websites that have been added to Compatibility View option, click it to select, then click the Remove button to disable compatibility view for emtrain.com.

  • Click the Close button to exit the Compatibility View Settings window. The page should reload and your course should now open properly.

Setting the browser’s Document Mode (IE 8,9, and 10)

  • From your Learner Portal, click the Finish Course button to open the course
  • Click the Gear icon on the far right side of the browser and select F12 Developer Tools from the menu. (Note: In Internet Explorer 8 open the Tools menu)

  • The Developer Tools panel will open along the bottom of the window. The Browser Mode and Document Mode settings are shown along the top of the panel.

  • Select the proper setting based on your browser’s version:
